My web search for scholarship opportunities since the past two months when I got my admission for graduate studies has proved futile with each passing day and all my mails have been replied with no open door in sight. The semester I was admitted for was just about two months away and I didn't have any means of funding to take up the enrollment. As I leaned back after officially exhausting all my options, I wondered at what point one knows to give up! I really did not want to give up. I wanted to fight till the end, knowing somewhere, somehow, the funding for my enrollment would pop up, but with every closed door that I encountered, my bravado went down a notch. I really wanted to be that woman of faith who sees open doors when in reality all the doors are closed, but I realised that sermon was easier preached than practiced. Tho

Of course, I probably was the only who noticed, not because I was the most observant, but because somehow, every other person was somehow glued to her phone and occupied. It was unusual to see Amaka out in the living room with the rest of the occupants of our three bedroom flat, but I guess even the most introverted people have to get out of their shell at some time during this lockdown period. Amaka is the sort of lady who leaves for a run while some of us are just rousing from sleep and still manages to leave for work before any other person in the flat.
